Abraham Lincoln

Lincoln and Mary both stayed in Springfield for over a year, but avoided each other, until mutual friends brought them back together. They courted in secret until the day of the their wedding, November 4, 1842, when they were married at the home of Elizabeth and Ninian Edwards, Mary's sister and brother in law.

Lincoln later corresponded to a friend saying "Nothing new here, except my marrying, which to me, is matter of profound wonder."
