Use this dialog to establish global publishing and workflow standards for your site. Note that you need to configure email to use CommonSpot email options.

CommonSpot defaults to the HTML5 doctype standard for all CommonSpot pages, as shown above, with the option to enable use of the new Sectioning and Non-Sectioning tags in Containers and Schedule Elements.

Because HTML5 tags can produce a variety of rendering defects in certain older browsers, the option to allow them is disabled by default. If you allow HTML5 Container Elements, you should enable this, unless you have your own browser workaround that you'd rather use. If you enable use of HTML5 tags, you should also enable the HTML5 Container Shims option, to automatically handle rendering for incompatible browsers (unless you already have your own workarounds for this purpose). CommonSpot adds CSS to fix issues for most browsers, and a small JavaScript shim for versions of IE earlier than 9.

Note that screen reader and other assistive technology users have reported issues parsing headers nested within HTML5 Section tags. Without Sectioning tags, outlines are interpreted in a straightforward way, using the h1-h6 tags. See Developing Accessible Content in CommonSpot. NOTE: Changing the HTML5 DocType or HTML5 Container Shims setting clears page-level cache for the entire site. Enabling or disabling HTML5 Container Elements clears cache for all CommonSpot Container and Schedule Elements in the site, preserving any existing HTML5 Container tag settings for possible future use. CommonSpot then renders all existing HTML5 tags as divs, so you don't need to find and reset them all manually.

Use HTML5 DocType - Defaults to enabled, to take advantage of the latest new features and multimedia, while remaining compatible with existing markup.

NOTE: When disabled, CommonSpot uses the custom doctype string in your servervars file, if one is defined. You must explicitly disable this setting to enable any custom doctype string in servervars. If this setting is disabled, and no custom doctype exists in servervars, doctype defaults to XHTML 1.0 Transitional.

Disabling this setting automatically disables the next two HTML5-related options.

• Allow HTML5 Container Tags - Defaults to disabled. When checked, enables the HTML5 Sectioning tag options (for Article, Aside, Footer, Header, Nav) and the Non-Sectioning options (for Figure, Fig Caption, Footer, Header and Main) in the Container Tag dropdown in Layout Properties for Container and Schedule Elements. See Container Layout Properties in the Elements Reference to see how tag options present to contributors/designers in CommonSpot.
• Use HTML5 Container Shims - Defaults to disabled. When checked, CommonSpot adds CSS to fix HTML5 compatibility issues for most older browsers, and a small JavaScript shim for versions of IE earlier than 9. If you enable HTML5 Container Elements, enable this option as well, unless your site has its own browser compatibility workarounds.

• Include keywords meta tag - When unchecked (default), excludes all CommonSpot keywords from the keywords meta tag on all pages. Check to include them by default.
• Allow Image Resize - When checked (default), authors can modify uploaded image sizes. When unchecked, authors cannot change the size of uploaded images. Note that this applies only to images managed through the Image Gallery, not to images accessed and modified through the Rich Text Editor.
• Global Forms Resource - Pick from the dropdown to choose the resource to use for all Simple Forms, Custom Metadata Forms, Custom Elements, Query by Example, and other custom forms published at your site. This option simplifies the loading of styles, libraries, or other resources needed for forms used at your site. Resources listed here are registered through CommonSpot's Resources and Libraries management features. Note that the resource you specify will also affect custom forms in CommonSpot dialogs.
• Enable Usage Statistics - When checked (default), CommonSpot collects the number of times authenticated users access individual pages, for the number of days specified. Defaults to 30 days. To view statistics, show left panel options at the page level and choose Page Tools - Quick Links - Usage Statistics to view usage for individual pages.

  Note that this option does not collect statistics for anonymous user access. To view visitor statistics, set up Analytics.

• Email a Copy of Log Entries - When checked, emails the CommonSpot Webmaster for every entry to the errors.log file. Defaults to unchecked.
• Show Upload Confirmation Messages - When checked, confirmation messaging displays to contributors for each successful image, file, document, or multimedia upload. Defaults to unchecked.
• Prevent Search Engines from Indexing Expired Pages - By default search engines such as Googlebot will index a page and follow links to it. Checking this option adds the following <meta> tag to the head section of all pages scheduled to expire to automatically prevent search engine indexing and link following:

• Remove Default Page Filename From Links - For better SEO, check this option to remove the default page filename from all links on the page. In addition, please define the Default Page Filename (ie: index.htm, index.cfm, etc.)

• Enable Reject Approval Option - When checked (default), the Reject menu option displays in the approval view. Unchecking disables the Reject option (instead, use Refer Back).
• Require Publication Comments - If this box is checked, authors must include comments when submitting content for publication. Use this option if it's important that all site changes are clearly documented. Defaults to unchecked.
• Content Submission Action - Controls settings for defaults when contributors Submit All Changes for Publication: (See the Contributor's Reference for details.) Pick from the dropdowns.
  • Treat content change as major:
    • Default On sets the Submit Change value to checked, but user-editable.
    • Default Off sets the Submit Change value to unchecked, but user-editable.
  • View page as published after submission: Defaults to Off: Contributor checkbox defaults to unchecked.
    • Default On sets the Submit Change checkbox to checked and user-editable.
    • Default Off sets the Submit Change checkbox to unchecked and user-editable.
  • Send publication notification: Defaults to Off: Contributor checkbox defaults to unchecked.
    • Default On sets the Submit Change value to checked and user-editable.
    • Default Off sets the Submit Change value to unchecked and user-editable.
    • Always Send sets the Submit Change value to checked and read-only.
    • Never Send sets the Submit Change value to unchecked and hides the Send publication notification field.
  • Send approvers notification email:
    • Default On sets the Submit Change value to checked and user-editable.
    • Default Off sets the Submit Change value to unchecked and user-editable.
    • Always Send sets the Submit Change value to checked and read-only.
    • Never Send sets the Submit Change value to unchecked and hides the Send approvers notification email field.
