- At Galveston, Texas, in January 1863 in command of companies D, G, and I of the 42nd Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, Burrell attempted to defend Galveston against recapture by the enemy. However, the Confederates captured or killed all of them except for the regiment'³ adjutant.
