Pillow, Gideon J.

Bio:
Although he initially opposed secession, Gideon Pillow joined the Confederacy when Tennessee seceded. Despite the fact he was originally commissioned a major general, he served as a brigadier general as of July 9, 1861. In November 1861, he led a division into battle at Belmont, Missouri. Later, he participated in the siege at Fort Donelson in February 1862, where soon after he was relinquished of command.
