Battle Person Detail

Lyon, Nathaniel

Bio:
Lyon served on the frontier before he was assigned to command the U.S. arsenal in St. Louis in 1861. As a strong supporter of the Union, of Lincoln, and of the Republican Party, Lyon encouraged the Missouri government to remain in the Union. His death at Wilson's Creek made him the first Union general to die in battle during the Civil War.
