- At Springfield, Missouri, in October 1861 as the local state guard commander in Springfield, Colonel Frazier prepared to meet the Union advance with a call to all Missouri State Guards. With a force of approximately 1,500 men, he attempted to defend the town. However, he was not able to save the town from Union occupation.
