Sibley, Henry H.

- As Minnesota's first governor, Sibly established a good relationship with the Sioux tribes in the state. In September 1862 he was commissioned as a brigadier general and was made responsible for putting down the Sioux uprising of 1862. After the war, he served as a commissioner in negotiations with the tribes.
