- U.S. Representative from Missouri (1845-46) and Governor of Missouri (1853-1857), he commanded troops in the Missouri State Guard and the Confederate Army at the battles of Wilson'³ Creek, Pea Ridge, Iuka, Corinth, Marais des Cygnes and Mine Creek.
