Jackson, William H.

Bio:
In May 1861, Jackson joined the Confederate service as a captain of artillery. He was wounded at the Battle of Belmont, Missouri, and returned to service with a promotion to colonel of the 1st Tennessee Infantry. The capture of Holly Springs led to his subsequent promotion to brigadier general in December 1862. He served in the Vicksburg campaign, and in the invasion of Tennessee before the end of the war.
