Adams, Emil

- There are few readily available records of Adams's service during the Civil War, with the exception of his leadership in the Battle of Athens, Alabama, in January 1864. As a captain in the 9th Illinois Mounted Infantry, detached from its brigade, he helped to fight off an attack by Confederate cavalry. They were outnumbered almost six to one in this battle.
