- At the battle of Corydon on July 8, 1863, Union military officials called out the militia in Indiana and Ohio and worked feverishly to organize a defense against a Confederate raid under Brigadier General John H. Morgan. On July 9th, Colonel Jordan was in command of a force of approximately 400 men in the Indiana Home Guard as they positioned themselves to defend the town of Corydon, Indiana. Most of them were captured, including Jordan, in this attempt.
