- Colonel McCullough commanded the Confederate forces at the Battle of Simon's Bluff, in South Carolina. On June 21, 1862, in operations against Charleston, a Union regiment surprised and burned an encampment of the 16th South Carolina Infantry, under Colonel McCullough.
