- There are few records of Pearson's service during the Civil War, with the exception of his leadership in the Battle of Tampa, Florida. On June 30, 1862, the town came under attack by a Union gunboat. Captain Pearson, and his company of Osceola Rangers, refused the surrender of the town and defended its interests.
