Corse, John M.

Bio:
In July 1861, Corse was commissioned major of the 6th Iowa Infantry, on the staff of General John Pope. He served at the siege of New Madrid, and in the Corinth campaign. He was quickly promoted to lieutenant colonel and then to colonel. After service in the Vicksburg campaign, he was promoted to brigadier general. He was wounded at the Battle of Chattanooga but returned during the Atlanta campaign. After the fall of Atlanta, he commanded forces in defense of Allatoona Pass. He mustered out in 1866 with a brevet of major general.
