Garden's Company, South Carolina Light Artillery (Palmetto Light Battery)

Overview:
Palmetto Light Artillery completed its organization at Charleston, South Carolina, during the late spring of 1862. Most of the men were from the Charleston and Georgetown areas. It was ordered to Virginia and attached to B.W. Frobel's, M.W. Henry's, and J.C. Haskell's Battalion of Artillery, Army of Northern Virginia. The company participated in various conflicts from Second Manassas to Cold Harbor, then was involved in the Petersburg siege and the campaign that closed at Appomattox. It lost 9 wounded during the Maryland operations, had 63 engaged at Gettysburg, and surrendered with 3 officers and 98 men. Its commander was Captain Hugh R. Garden.
