CONFEDERATE MISSOURI TROOPS

8th Regiment, Missouri Cavalry

Overview:
8th Cavalry Regiment was organized late in 1862 with men who had served in the Missouri State Guard. It was assigned to J.C. Porter's, C. Greene's, and J.B. Clark's Brigade, Trans-Mississippi Department. The unit was active in Marmaduke's Expedition into Missouri, fought at Helena and Bayou Fourche, skirmished in Missouri and Arkansas, then saw action in Price's Missouri operations. It sustained 6 casualties with Marmaduke, 1 at Helena, and 29 with Price. The regiment disbanded prior to the surrender in June, 1865. The field officers were Colonel William L. Jeffers, Lieutenant Colonel Samuel J. Ward, and Major James Parrott.
