Watson Battery, Louisiana Artillery

Overview:
Watson Light Artillery, organized at Baton Rouge, Louisiana, during the early fall of 1861, contained men from Livingston, East Baton Rouge, and St. Helena parishes. The unit was active in the fight at Belmont and on November 30, had 5 officers and 94 men present for duty. Later it was assigned to Moaxey's and Beall's Brigade, Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana, anad after serving in Mississippi became part of the garrison at Port Hudson. Here the company was converted to heavy artillery and captured on July 9, 1863. The men were exchanged, but the unit was not reorganized. Many of its members joined the 1st Louisiana Regular Artillery Regiment. Captain Daniel Beltzhoover was in command.
