22nd Infantry Regiment was organized at Camp Moore, Louisiana, in March, 1862. Its
companies were from New Orleans and the parishes of Jefferson, Washington, St. Charles, St.
John the Baptist, and St. James. The unit was placed in L. Hebert's Brigade, Department of
Mississippi and East Louisiana, and reported 3 casualties at Chickasaw Bayou and 37 during the Vicksburg siege. After being
exchanged, it was reorganized as the 22nd Louisiana Infantry Regiment Consolidated. Its
commanders were Colonel Charles H. Herrick, Lieutenant Colonels Samuel Jones and Aristee L.
Tissot, and Major Washington Marks.
