9th Regiment, Florida Infantry

Overview:
9th Infantry Regiment was organized at Hanover Junction, Virginia, in June, 1864, using the 6th Florida Infantry Battalion as its nucleus. Many of its members were from Levy, Hernando, and Marion Counties. Assigned to General Finegan's Brigade, the unit served with the Army of Northern Virginia at Cold Harbor, then was placed in the Petersburg trenches south of the James River. It was involved in the Appomattox Campaign and surrendered on April 9, 1865, with 15 officers and 108 men. Colonels John M. Martin and Robert B. Thomas, and Major Pickens B. Bird were in command.
