13th Battalion, Alabama Partisan Rangers (13th Battalion, Alabama Cavalry)

Overview:
13th Battalion Partisan Rangers, organized during the early fall of 1862, contained four companies. It was assigned to the Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana, and first served as scouts and pickets. With about 250 men, it fought at King's Creek under General Ruggles, then in the summer of 1863 merged into the 56th Alabama Regiment Partisan Rangers. The unit was commanded by Major William A. Hewlett.
