5th Battalion, Alabama Infantry Volunteers (Blount's)
- Overview:
- 9th Infantry Battalion [also called 5th Battalion] was organized at Newbern, Alabama, in November, 1861, with eight companies. The unit participated in the Battles of Shiloh and Farmington, then was stationed at Mobile until April, 1863. At that time it was ordered to Tullahoma and placed in General Clayton's Brigade. After the fight at Hoover's Gap, two additional companies were assigned, and the 58th Alabama Regiment was formed. Its field officers were Lieutenant Colonels Robert P. Blount and Bushrod Jones, Major W.D.C. Lloyd.
