HARKERS ISLAND, N.C. - The National Park Service has selected Laura E. Rich Acosta as the new superintendent of Cape Lookout National Seashore. She will begin her assignment on July 12, 2026.
Rich Acosta brings nearly two decades of NPS experience, including leadership roles in facility and asset management, administration, project planning and park operations. She most recently served as the Midwest Region chief of facility and asset management and previously served as acting Midwest associate regional director for administration and external programs.
“I’m honored for the opportunity to help steward this extraordinary part of the Outer Banks,” said Superintendent Laura E. Rich Acosta. “I look forward to supporting the park’s dedicated staff and working with community partners who care deeply about Cape Lookout.”
Colleagues describe Rich Acosta as a strategic thinker known for building strong partnerships and leading complex regional programs with integrity and clarity. Her work has supported major planning initiatives and workforce development efforts across the Service.
A native of western North Carolina’s Appalachian region, Rich Acosta said she looks forward to returning to the coast and joining the Cape Lookout team with her family.
Cape Lookout National Seashore protects 56 miles of barrier islands along the North Carolina coast, offering natural beaches, historic structures and exceptional opportunities for recreation and wildlife viewing.
