This information helps park managers improve visitor services, guide planning and operations, and protect the park’s natural and cultural resources.Recent Socioeconomic Research2025 Socioeconomic Research for BISOThis report presents findings from the fall 2025 Socioeconomic Monitoring Program Visitor Survey at Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area. Big South Fork was one of 21 National Park Service units surveyed during the 2025 sampling period and was studied during its peak season. The research was carried out by Otak, Inc.; RRC Associates, Inc.; the Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research at the University of Montana; and GAIA Environmental Consulting. 
NPS Photo Research PermitsThe National Park Service has a long history of encouraging educational discovery and scientific research in parks. Research and collection activities within the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area are managed to prevent damage to the resources, to coordinate research activities, and to assist in the application of science to the management of the park. For these reasons, a National Park Service permit is required for any collecting or research activity conducted within the park. Permits may only be issued to official representatives of a reputable scientific or educational institution or a federal, tribal, or state agency to conduct scientific research activities. Persons interested in collecting or conducting research must make application to the National Park Service. Applications may be obtained from and submitted to the specific park of interest or online at: https://irma.gov/rprs/Home.
