Winter Clothing Guide Acadia National Park
Acadia National Park offers year round activity and enjoyment, as long as the adventurous travelers come prepared.
The weather in coastal Maine during the winter averages anywhere from the occasional negative teens to highs up above 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Wind speeds can also impact the temperature, a 20 degree day with 15 degree wind chill will feel like a 5 degree day as the wind bellows across your face. It is important to always check the weather before you enter the park as winter storms pose their own challenges.
Consider your activity, if you are ice fishing or partaking in more sedentary activities a warmer insulating layer will be important. Meanwhile, if you are enjoying non- sedentary activities such as cross country skiing or snow shoeing, keeping your extremities warm will be key.
Suggestions for appropriate winter wear:
-
A base layer made of a quick drying material
-
A midlayer that is easy to remove when necessary
-
An insulating layer to wear on the outside, such as a jacket
-
Coverage for face, neck, and other extremities
-
Sunglasses or goggles that provide UV protection
