Completed in 1764, the Sandy Hook Lighthouse is the oldest continuously operating lighthouse in the United States. Over time interior moisture issues created staining on this iconic site. Description

The rehabilitation included removal of exterior staining and discoloration, removal of the exterior masonry coating, replacement of exterior masonry coating with an appropriate breathable coating, repairing the lantern and roof, rehabilitating the viewing platform's perimeter guardrail and entry gate, and upgrading the interior lighting and ventilation systems as needed.

The Sandy Hook Lighthouse was closed from Sept. 25, 2017 to June 24, 2018 so the necessary repairs could take place.

Sandy Hook lighthouse is the oldest continuously operating lighthouse in the United States. Over time the exterior had become stained and unsightly.
