How long have you been a volunteer with the National Park Service?
Tom: I started working at Joshua Tree National Park in early 2013.
What is one of your favorite moments as a volunteer?
Tom: When a couple visiting from Chicago came in the VC and told me they had been there a couple years prior and we so impressed with my enthusiasm of Joshua Tree, it became “their” favorite park.
If you could describe Joshua Tree National Park in one word, what would it be?
Tom: Inimitable
What's one concern you have for the future of Joshua Tree National Park?
Tom: Can you imagine a Joshua Tree National Park without Joshua trees?
Tell us about your time as a volunteer
Tom: As a VIP, I am thankful for the opportunity to help educate visitors from all over the world about our park. I enjoy providing assistance, information and directions related to our park and neighboring areas helping to ensure that visitors have an enjoyable and safe visit. I enjoy sharing the stories and history of our park and surrounding areas and telling them about the many opportunities they have here and I believe that by doing so, I am empowering them to love our park much in a way that we all do.
