Kenai Mountains-Turnagain Arm National Heritage Area

Kenai Mountains, AK (February 14, 2020) –

How do Kenai Mountains-Turnagain Arm National Heritage Area’s residents love their NHA? The residents showed they count the ways. On Valentine’s Day, Kenai Mountains-Turnagain Arm NHA announced the winners of their poetry contest, which challenged participants to describe what they love about the NHA in a traditional haiku format. Winners received a $25 gift certificate to a local business in their NHA.

Kenai Mountains-Turnagain Arm National Heritage Area

A panel of judges who work for Kenai Mountains-Turnagain Arm NHA evaluated haikus based on creativity, content, writing, and relevancy to the NHA. Leihla Harrison’s “Discovery” poem won the youth category, and Sarah Aho’s “Biking Devil’s Delight” won the adult category.

Self-discovery, rivers, bike trails, and natural beauty are just a few of the many exciting resources of the Kenai Mountains and the Turnagain Arm sound. Contestants could also have written about the glacial valleys, Cook Inlet, Prince William Sound, and any of the communities in the historic transportation corridor.
