Keelie at Lewis and Clark National Historical Park
Hello from Lewis and Clark National Historical Park near Astoria, Oregon. The rangers here finally let me out of my kennel.
This park has many sites to see and I visited the ones near Fort Clatsop.
This fort is a 2006 replica of the camp where Seaman and the humans of the Corps of Discovery spent the winter of 1805-06 (in the rain).
Volunteer Cindy took me on a tour of the park. We had fun exploring the fort and the trails and imaging what Seaman would have thought about his winter here.
Guess what people call the river that Fort Clatsop is near?
Today it is the Lewis and Clark River!
Today it is the Lewis and Clark River!
The captains never called it that, they wrote that the Clatsop Indians referred to it as the Netul.
I learned about the park's Junior Ranger program and saw people of all ages working on these workbooks as they explored the park. When they completed their activities in the booklet, they earned a cool Junior Ranger badge.
