Fort Massachusetts Stairwells Repointing

Fort Massachusetts is a unique fortification due to its construction and location. Through some of the most powerful storms to ever hit the Gulf Coast, the fort has stood for more than 150 years. Though it only remains standing, because of constant preservation work on the natural materials that breakdown over time. This project accomplished a complete brick repair and repointing of three circular stairwells in Fort Massachusetts, which were rapidly deteriorating due to salt water intrusion.

Thanks to ongoing funds provided by fees collected in the park’s campgrounds and at the entrances, more preservation projects at Fort Massachusetts will be possible.
