Devils Tower Model Challenge

Have you ever tried making a model before? A model is a 3D copy of a person or object and does not have to be the same size as the real thing. Models are usually made out of building or art supplies, like clay. Can a creative junior ranger like you use regular household items to make a model? We think so!

The Challenge

Try to make a 3D model of Devils Tower using items found around your house or in your backyard. You can use whatever items you want, just get an adult’s permission first! Use pictures of Devils Tower to get inspired. You can also look at our 3D virtual model of Devils Tower.

When making your model, think about the shape of the Tower. Is the Tower taller than it is wide? Are the sides straight up and down, or are they slanted or curved? Are the sides of the Tower smooth?

The Tower can look very different depending on what side you are facing. You may want to focus on what one side looks like for your model.

You can use objects around your house to recreate the Tower, such as water bottles and office supplies. Be creative and have fun!
