Chris Carpenter Selected as NPS Engineer of the Year
Chris Carpenter, Denver Service Center (DSC) Portfolio Manager, was selected as the National Park Service (NPS) Engineer of the Year. He will be honored at an awards ceremony in Washington, DC on December 11, 2024.
Chris was recognized for his leadership in delivering a $500 million portfolio of infrastructure projects at Grand Canyon National Park. Chris leads an interdisciplinary team of more than 20 professional engineers to develop technical documents for drinking water treatment that included complex pipeline hydraulics, floodplain evaluations, power transmission, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) requisites. This new potable water system is critical to supplying safe drinking water to Grand Canyon’s employees and more than 5 million visitors each year.
"I am honored to receive this prestigious award," said Chris Carpenter. "The NPS employs some of the best and brightest engineers in the country, and I'm humbled to be selected from this talented group."
In addition to his leadership on these critical infrastructure projects, Chris secured the first-ever commercial drone operation access to enable the team to gather data from hard-to-reach places. Data gathered from these drones was used to create exact virtual replicas of real-world spaces to create engineering solutions for the waterline from the North Rim to the South Rim.
Congratulations to Chris for this well-deserved award!
