Charles and Betty Fitzpatrick
Charles L. Fitzpatrick was a Naval aviator in a PV-1 Ventura with VPB-136, Fleet Air Wing 4 during WWII. He flew bombing missions from Attu to the Kurile Islands. Charles wrote a book about his experiences in the Aleutians including a March 1945 ditching off Kodiak and subsequent rescue by Missionary Steven Zdepski and the people of the town of Karluk, Alaska. Charles and Betty Fitzpatrick were instrumental in having the Aleutian Campaign recognized on the Navy/Marine football stadium wall at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. What a wonderful way to recognize those who served and a reminder to future generations of a piece of history we should not forget - the Forgotten War.
