Bat Projects in Parks: Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument

Summary

Employee training to implement better survey techniques and acoustic monitoring methods

PI: Tyler Coleman

Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument used the funds to attend the 2016 "Bat Survey Techniques Workshop" in Portal, AZ. The workshop covered the most recent methods for conducting mist netting surveys, acoustic monitoring, disease identification, and video surveys. The hands-on course allowed park staff to develop skills that were immediately implemented in the summer of 2016. Thus, the remainder of the funds was spent on microphone cables for acoustic data collection and contributed to the purchase of Sonobat software.
