In 2019, the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail increased by 1,200 miles, stretching now from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the Pacific Ocean. The inclusion of southern Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania to the national historic trail will open a new chapter for the trail and its patrons. Close to 10% of Americans live along the newly-added trail, meaning many more will have access to the Trail and its many interpretive sites, parks, and nature reserves.
