Where in the World is Ulysses S. Grant? A Timeline

Ulysses S. Grant was passionate about traveling and learning about new cultures. Grant traveled the world and visited almost every U.S. state during his lifetime. Technological developments throughout the nineteenth century in transportation--particularly steamboats and trains--made it possible for Grant to travel tens of thousands of miles.

Research for this project was conducted by student intern Trey Lowenthal, who studied all thirty-one volumes of The Papers of Ulysses S. Grant (Southern Illinois University Press) in Spring 2022 and compiled the information into this spreadsheet.
