African American Civil Rights Network
The W.E.B. Du Bois Center for Freedom and Democracy is located in Great Barrington, Massachusetts where W.E.B. Du Bois was born and raised. The Center is housed in the former Clinton A.M.E church building in downtown Great Barrington. The mission of the W.E.B. Du Bois Center is to educate the public about the life and legacy of civil rights pioneer W.E.B. Du Bois and the rich African American heritage of Massachusetts’ Berkshires region. The Du Bois Center is the first museum and living memorial in the United States dedicated to W.E.B Du Bois’ life and legacy.
The W.E.B. Du Bois Center for Freedom and Democracy became part of the African American Civil Rights Network in 2022.
The African American Civil Rights Network recognizes the African American Civil Rights Movement in the United States and the sacrifices made by those who fought against discrimination and segregation. Created by the African American Civil Rights Act of 2017, and coordinated by the National Park Service, the Network tells the stories of the people, places, and events of the U.S. African American Civil Rights Movement through a collection of public and private resources to include properties, facilities, and programs.
