Veteran Story: Mike Gamble

Mike Gamble was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve in 1971 and remained in the Reserve for 28 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1999. He served as an Intelligence Officer in Psychological Operations and Strategic Military Intelligence units supervising the collection and dissemination of intelligence.

In 1999, he began work as a Seasonal Park Ranger at the Antietam National Battlefield. Upon retiring from a career in public education in 2006, he continued as a seasonal until his appointment as a Career Seasonal Park Ranger in 2017. His duties at Antietam include collecting fees, visitor assistance, and interpretating the history of the battle through presentations, hikes, and car caravans and musical performances on fiddle and banjo.
