As part of the Springfield Armory National Historic Site strategic plan rangers are focused on engaging with our military personnel in the Western Massachusetts area presenting programs and issuing America the Beautiful passes to current military members and their dependents, Veterans and Gold Star Families.

Rangers participated in a Veterans Day event at Springfield Technical Community College hosted by the college Veteran and Military Services. Rangers issued military passes alongside other service organizations including Veterans Inc., Vet Center, and the VA and Office of Disability Services.

Park Ranger and Air Force Veteran Susan Ashman recently met with local service members at the USO at the Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee while Boomer, the mascot for the Springfield Thunderbirds hockey team, handed out free hockey tickets. Armory staff participated in the Navy Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Great Navy Campout at Naval Submarine Base 14 in Groton, Conn. Staff will return to the Groton Liberty Center to hand out military passes to new Navy personnel and to participate in Winter Wonderland activities.
