Question of the Season at Saint Croix Island IHS
Please read our question of the season and feel free to answer.
We have a whiteboard in the Saint Croix Island International Historic Site visitor center where we pose a question each season and give visitors sticky notes to leave an answer, if they like. We know not everyone can get to our park in Downeast Maine, but you can still take part in our activities. We will post our question here each season and if you would like to provide an answer feel free to call us at 207-454-3871 anytime and if we are not here then just leave a message or email us.
Some answers will make their way to this page!

Our question:
"The Passamaquoddy have lived throughout Maine and Canada and that includes the area that includes Saint Croix Island. In 1604 the French arrived and took up residence on the Passamaquoddy homeland. How would you feel today if someone you did not know moved onto your property and decided to make it their own?"
** It is important to note that when this question was created it was pointed out that land is an important part of the well being of the Passamaquoddy people, but no one can own property, we are here to protect the land.**
Answers:
"I would cry and I would simply feel powerless in todays world" -- Sienna, Millerton, NY
"I would want to know why they would think they could just do that, I would want them to explain themselves" -- Marcella, Pittsburg, PA
