The Cache La Poudre National Heritage Area’s new wellness program, On the Trail to Health, Heritage and Happiness,™ promotes fun education and exercise for families, companies, scout troops, student groups, and solo adventurers alike.
Visitors can get their dose of exercise by hiking or biking along different themed wellness routes in the heritage area. At built-in checkpoints along the way, visitors can share their progress on social media, snap photos of the nationally designated Wild and Scenic Cache La Poudre River, spot wildlife, and learn about the important role the river plays in the history and life of the surrounding community.
For a small fee, companies and schools can buy Heritage Tour packages for their employees as part of the health focused initiative. After signing a photo agreement, the heritage area will track the mileage of each of the participants as they follow the program’s four wellness routes: the “Lions’ Share of History,” “Past, Present, and Future Fort Collins,” “East to the B.H. Eaton,” and “Greeley’s Number 3.” Each route’s scenic views and checkpoints offer different perspectives of the river. On one route, visitors may take selfies with historic structures. On another, they may learn about Fort Collins’ canal heritage, or search for unique bird’s nests.
The heritage area is currently working on incorporating their Learning in Our Watershed program into the Wellness program, for what will be a fun way for students to enjoy educational field trips with their families while school classes continue to be held online. To partner with the heritage area and enjoy the Wellness program, email wellness@poudreheritage.org or contact them here.
