Partnerships Bring BIPOC Bike Rides to the Delaware and Lehigh Trail
Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is an important topic in outdoor recreation, especially after the spotlight given to racial injustice in the past year. Working to create a more diverse, equitable and inclusive future, the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor partnered with Afros in Nature (AiN) and the Coalition for Appropriate Transportation (CAT) to sponsor two bike ride events which facilitated access and promoted joy on the D&L Trail.
The events engaged both adults and children and help the community look forward to all the future connections! CAT, through their Bicycle Cooperative, assists in providing access to bicycles for those who might not otherwise own or be able to rent a bicycle. AiN works to deepen connections to nature, invite calm, and create space for conversation for black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC).
