National Flag of the 114th Pennsylvania
This regiment was organized at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in August 1862. It was attached to the 1st Brigade, 1st Division, 3rd Corps of the Army of the Potomac. The regiment fought at the battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and others until May 1864. The 114th Pennsylvania was then assigned as the Provost Guard at the Headquarters, Army of the Potomac until March 1865. It fought in the battles at the Wilderness, Cold Harbor, Spotsylvania, and Petersburg as part of Collis’ Independent Brigade, 2nd Division, 5th Corps. The regiment lost 11 men during service.This flag is an excellent example of the variations seen in Civil War flags. According to the regulations, the canton should only have stars, but painted here is an additional emblem. Battle honors were not painted on this flag.
