Mountain Goat Crochet Pattern

Janwú

Janwú, mountain goats, roam the cliffs and ledges of Glacier Bay and were commonly hunted by Huna Tlingit before the park was established. Their meat and tallow is treasured, their horns are used to craft elaborate spoons and shamanic headdresses, and their thick undercoat of fine hair is still prized today for weaving ceremonial robes and tunics. Although hunting mountain goats is not permitted within Glacier Bay National Park, tribal members are permitted to gather goat wool along the cliffs where goats are common. As creatures that scramble the upper reaches of Glacier Bay peaks, they serve as intermediaries between earth and sky. Tlingit oral history is replete with stories about these nimble creatures.

Can be made to any size. Ranger Hailey used DK weight yarn and a 3.25 mm hook.
Material:
1. Crochet hook (use 1 size down from recommended size for your chosen yarn)
2. Yarn: White/cream and black
3. Fiber fill
4. Sewing needle
5. Safety eyes
