April IPM Webinars – Spongy Moths and Non-Leaded Ammunition

The NPS Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program regularly hosts webinars on a variety of IPM and invasive species related topics which are open to anyone. On Thursday, April 14th at 12:00pm MT, the NPS IPM Program will be hosting a webinar on Reducing Lead in the Landscape. This webinar will provide an overview of the impact of lead on NPS wildlife resources, the NPS initiative to "Get The Lead Out", and the barriers and policies regarding the adoption of non-lead ammunition for invasive animal and wildlife management in the NPS.

On April 20th at 11:00am MT, Joe Rominiecki from the Entomological Society of America (ESA) will be presenting Same Moth, New Name: Why Lymantria dispar is Now the “Spongy Moth” a webinar on why and how the ESA adopted “spongy moth” as the new common name for the species Lymantria dispar (formerly known as “gypsy moth”) and how you can help boost adoption of the new name. The change is the first undertaken via ESA’s Better Common Names Project, which aims to review and replace insect common names that may perpetuate negative ethnic or racial stereotypes.
