Dear friends, it is my honor to recognize the 18th President of the United States of America, Ulysses s Grant, in commemoration of his 200th birthday. Ulysses S Grant, the American hero, was born on April 27th, 1822, fought gallantly in the Mexican-American War and led the Union Army to victory in the American Civil War as the Commanding General. Grant became president of the United States in 1869.

After trailblazing through many battles and campaigns to win the hearts of Americans. During his presidency, Grant secured the ratification of the 15th Amendment, passed the Civil Rights Act of 1871, established the United States Department of Justice, and signed the Yellowstone National Park Protection Act into law establishing the world's first national park. Notably, today's date provides an opportune time to highlight and celebrate Ulysses s Grant for his dedication, perseverance and exemplary service to the United States of America.

New Jersey, alongside the Ulysses S Grant Administration, wishes Ulysses S Grant a happy birthday and joins with you to celebrate this incredible milestone. Congratulations on this wonderful milestone and happy birthday. My very best, Philip D. Murphy, Governor.
