A little friendly competition among family and friends is a great way to get active and get outdoors this summer! For Day 2 of the Kick Start to Summer Virtual Junior Ranger Summer Camp you will challenge your neighborhood pal, sibling, or a new friend to some Outdoor Olympics at the C&O Canal.

We've curated a list of FUN ideas to get you started below. Don't worry too much about keeping score, it's all about having some summer fun! Whether you're into thinking games, active play, or games that challenge your perseverance—we have the games and resources just for you!

Scavenger Hunt

Explore the natural wonders of the C&O Canal with a Scavenger Hunt! Watch for wildlife, look closely at the plants around you, and check them off as you go. See how many plants and animals you can find! Of course, make sure to always #RecreateResponsibly and Leave No Trace while exploring the Park!

My Senses Spy Game

Have you ever played "I Spy?" Here is a fun version of the game that encourages learning and exploration called My Senses Spy. Look up, look down. What do you see? What can you hear? Engage all five senses while exploring the C&O Canal, a local park near you, or even your own backyard!

Trail Games

Trail games are a great way to break up your hike or just have fun on the towpath! Take a water break, stretch, and try some of these trail games the next time you visit the C&O Canal National Historical Park. Remember to #RecreateResponsibly and Leave No Trace while having fun in the Park.

Towpath Trek EarthCache

Enjoy a historical scavenger hunt with the Towpath Trek EarthCache. EarthCaching allows you to explore the C&O Canal and the Great Falls while protecting the Park and #RecreatingResponsibly. Use your favorite map or GPS app to find the coordinates, take in your surroundings, read the waysides, and enjoy a fun activity exploring!
