Johnson Oak Park

Amount: $375,000

The City of Bridgeport and private partners, transformed a 4-acre project area comprising Johnson Oak Park and the grounds of the Jettie S. Tisdale School in the East End neighborhood of the city, a predominantly minority and low-income area. The funds supported phase I work including a picnic grove, spray pad, playground equipment, a fitness zone exercise area, and playing fields. The Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership (ORLP) program competitively awards funds to economically disadvantaged urban communities to help increase access to outdoor recreation and public parks. Funded through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), State Lead Agencies apply for matching grants to acquire and/or develop public land for all manner of outdoor recreation activities.
