Restoration | FY23 - 25 $400,000

The National Park Service (NPS) will implement climate restoration projects primarily involving youth adults from American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands, and Guam. Through paid internships at the National Park of American Samoa, American Memorial Park, and the War in the Pacific National Historical Park, interns will work alongside NPS biologists, cultural resource specialists, and other conservation staff as part of each park to engage in climate restoration projects.

Why? This project supports youth interns who will assist the NPS in removal of invasive species, native plant propagation, reforestation, habitat monitoring, and other maintenance needs. These activities are required to protect natural and cultural resources in the parks for the enjoyment of current and future generations.

What Else? This project will support the parks’ mission to build support among local islanders and achieve vital habitat restoration and endangered species protection work. Program participants will learn civic responsibility and citizenship values through engagement in conservation and preservation activities. The NPS will also support youth connection with their communities. Additionally, youth will experience the importance of resource stewardship.
