Gibrán Lule-Hurtado
Gibrán Lule-Hurtado, is a Community Planner who is based in Austin, Texas. As a Mexican American, being Latino has influenced Gibrán to work with the National Park Service to engage communities of color in conservation and outdoor recreation projects.
In the summer of 2017, Gibrán joined the Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance program as an intern working on green resilience in Little Walnut Creek, which later received an award from the American Planning Association. Since then, he has worked with partners across Texas to link underrepresented communities to green spaces. Connecting with community members in Spanish has played a significant role in making RTCA’s projects more accessible. When asked, Gibrán said that being a part of the Latino community has allowed him to see who is not being engaged, and what can be done to reach those individuals.
