Future preservation work of historic bathhouse row buildings in Hot Springs National Park

Hot Springs National Park will receive funding from the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) for roof repairs to the Buckstaff Bathhouse and structural and systems upgrades to the Maurice Bathhouse and the former Libbey Memorial Physical Medicine Center. These essential repairs will address deferred maintenance and repairs associated with these facilities and provide employees and visitors with more accessible, safe, and energy efficient facilities.

Renovations to the Maurice Bathhouse will make structural improvements and upgrade electrical, plumbing, and fire suppression systems. The structural foundation of the former Libbey Memorial Physical Medicine Center will also be stabilized, and window and roof repairs will stop water infiltration. Other work will include roof repairs to portions of the Buckstaff Bathhouse.

Infrastructure funding from the GAOA and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law are part of a concerted effort to address the extensive deferred maintenance and repair backlog in national parks. Supported by revenue from energy development, GAOA’s Legacy Restoration Fund provides up to $1.3 billion per year for five years to the National Park Service to make significant enhancements in national parks to ensure their preservation and provide opportunities for recreation, education, and enjoyment for current and future visitors.

More information will be available on the park website at nps.gov/hosp as the project progresses.
